I was very impressed with your mini-workshop this morning, Nick. It was a LOT of information, but you managed to present it in a way that was easy to take in. I'm writing to ask you what a realistic time commitment is for the "homework." Three hours a week? Ten? More? Less? Thanks!

Nick, another fantastic blog post. Congrats!

I recently attended a talk by the UK & Ireland MD of Starbucks (#starbucksukmd) who maintained that in the UK, more local coffee shops have opened up since the introduction of Starbucks to our tea-drinking shores. Hmmm, as much as he was a great guy, not sure if I was going to buy that from him.

But it seems other people believe there may be some truth in it: http://www.slate.com/id/2180301/

Maybe its our love of the underdog that makes this work. But introducing a consitent standard which local outfits can aspire to, putting their marketing power behind the 'coffee' lifestyle etc could have benefits.

Dare I say it, global Golliaths can enhance local business and community if they do things right?

Thanks for the great comment Kristin. Once you start using mind maps and see how they draw out new ideas and connections they do become addictive. I think the business plan on a napkin is fantastic and so non threatening.
